Ten years ago I realized that soon the kids in our schools will not have the understanding of a play or musical, so I came up with this idea to edit four known Broadway Musicals down into one show to help educate teenagers and young adults about live theatre.
Unfortunately with the cutbacks with schools coast to coast, most of the Unified School Districts have eliminated most of, if not all of music, theatre and acting classes from their roster. Many of the teenagers in our schools coast to coast never or will never experience a play or musical.
However inviting and giving the schools free tickets to our show, we would give the kids something new," “Broadway"” and when they come and experience our Musical, it will show them and the audience a breath taking moment as they experience “A Class with Broadway” as they watch my show.
Deciding which plays, songs, staging as well as if each show compliments each other and having the show flows smoothly was my biggest concern. Each song was carefully picked to make just not the songs move smoothly, but having the stage do the same, making each transformation from one play to the next look seamless. In most cases there wouldn’t even be a stage change when we cross from one play to the next, giving the audience a breath taking moment.
I carefully arranged each show, to give it’s full story as we present it. With a Full Stage Production traveling with our tour, it would give our audience the true feeling as if they are watching the actual production itself. However with the right arrangements, we would want the actual production to follow our tour between two weeks to two months. If the audience likes one or all stories, then they can watch the actual play when it comes to their city. We would be multi-million dollar advertising for each show.
More amazing, the actors who agreed to be part of this most important event have or are currently performing in these plays, and they will leave the actual play, to be part of this event. Each actor will play several characters throughout the play, to show our audience the versatility and charisma each actor has, to do his/her part to make this show a true “Taste of Broadway.”
I hope that you and others will help participate by making this Musical Tour a success so that we can help educate the teenagers and young adults in our schools coast to coast about theatre. If we do not open the eyes to the kids in the schools coast to coast, then what we know of Broadway today will become a past of tomorrow. We need to approach the age bracket, which will be our next buying audience, and my show does just that.
